Dear Colleagues,

It is a great pleasure to invite you to the 80th EAS Congress to be held in Milano, Italy, from 25 to 28 May 2012. The Congress is hosted by the Italian Society of Atherosclerosis, and members of this society have worked with the Local Organizing and Scientific Committees to prepare a programme that combines hot topics in atherosclerosis with timely reviews presented by outstanding plenary speakers and a series of workshops on the latest developments in the field.

The EAS has been, and continues to be, a major contributor to developments in the atherosclerosis. For EAS 2012 we aim to create a programme of interest both to junior and established basic scientists and to clinical researchers and practitioners. Our goal is to promote interaction between these different groups, and equally to ensure that cutting-edge basic research is translated into disease prevention and treatment. There will also be a special focus on new treatment consensus documents on the main lipid factors in atherosclerosis, and a major effort to present accessible, interesting and interactive poster sessions. We invite you all to send in Abstracts on your recent research to be presented in workshops or as posters and to enter the competition for the best presentations at the meeting.

The Congress will be held in the new Convention Centre in Milano, which is located in the city. The congress centre offers convenient facilities, allowing you to select your favorite topics among the parallel sessions, visit the exhibitions and find space for networking with your peers

Milano is the second largest city in Italy, located in the northern part of the country, and is very pleasant in May. Beautiful natural areas, such as the lakes, are just one hour’s journey from the city. Milano itself offers many attractions — sites of cultural interest, including the world renewed La Scala theatre, museums, monuments and last, but not least, fine Italian food.
